Oct. 8, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

In its final tune-up of the fall season, the University of Kansas softball team will host its second-straight tournament this weekend, Oct. 10-11, in the KU Fall Invite. The event is free to attend and will be held at Arrocha Ballpark, home of the KU softball team.

The Jayhawks will play Johnson County CC and Butler County CC on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively. Sunday, Kansas will conclude its fall season when it faces Johnson County again at 11 a.m. and Cowley County CC at 1 p.m.

Kansas finished 2-1 just one week earlier in its fall season opener. First year head coach Megan Smith and the Jayhawks lost to Emporia state in the weekend opener only to bounce back with wins versus Central Missouri and Washburn.

Several Jayhawks turned in impressive performances during last week’s tournament, including a grand slam from senior Amanda Jobe and homers by senior Sara Ramirez, junior Liz Kocon and freshman Mariah Montgomery.

Kansas softball returns 12 letterwinners from a year ago and has seven newcomers on its 2009-10 squad.
