Kansas Tennis Concludes Play at UNCW Invitational

Oct. 8, 2009

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Sophomore Alessandra Dzuba led the Kansas tennis team with an undefeated tournament in singles play, concluding day three of the UNCW Invitational.

Dzuba defeated Georgetown’s Nora Montgomery in a three set thriller, winning the third set 14-12 and clinching the first place spot in her bracket.

Sophomore Erin Wilbert fell in the finals to Furman’s Michele Stanford, but finished in the runner-up position in her bracket.

In doubles play, sophomore Ekaterina Morozova and freshman Victoria Khanesvskaya teamed together to beat UNC Wilmington and finish the tournament with a victory.

Head coach Amy Hall was pleased with her team’s overall performance.

“The girls did well for our first tournament and everyone was excited to play,” Hall said. “Overall we had a good showing and competed hard. We have more work to do but that just comes with playing a lot of matches. Alie (Dzuba) did well and doubles were impressive. I was happy with our performance, but we certainly have room for improvement.”

Kansas will return to action Friday, Sept. 25 when it hosts the KU Tournament at the First Serve Tennis facility in Lawrence, Kan.
