<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off the 2006-07 season with the 22nd annual Late Night in the Phog presented by Peoples Bank. A packed Allen Fieldhouse was treated to a night full of fun, entertainment and a glimpse of this season’s teams.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The evening began with performances from, among others, the KU spirit squad, the Unity Dance Team, `Squatch’ the Seattle Supersonics mascot and the Harlem Wizards.

Then the basketball started, as head coach Bonnie Henrickson and the rest of her team, which includes seven freshmen, was introduced and performed in front the Jayhawk faithful. In the team’s scrimmage, senior Shaquina Mosley and freshman Lindsay Ballweg scored five points apiece to lead the Blue Team to a 15-11 victory. Freshman Kelly Kohn paced the White Team with four points in her KU debut.

Following more skits and videos, it was the men’s turn, as this year’s squad performed a rendition of “Dancing with the Stars” before taking to the court. In the game, junior’s Darnell Jackson and C.J. Giles scored eight points apiece, guiding the Red Team to a 26-23 win. Leading the Blue Team was junior Sasha Kaun, who netted seven points, and sophomore Brandon Rush, who added six.

The women will open their season on Nov. 1 against Fort Hays State at Allen Fieldhouse, while the men will begin play the next day hosting Washburn.
