Walt Koelbel fired his second under-par round of the year as he shot a final-round score of 69 to vault himself up the leaderboard 24 spots to finish tied for 19th place at the Prestige at PGA West. The team overcame windy conditions at the Greg Norman Course (par-72, 7,156 yards) in Palm Springs, Calif. to shoot their best score of the tournament with a final-round 295 to finish in 16th place.

Koelbel tied his low-round of the year of 69, which he previously shot during the second round of the Kansas Invitational. The finish also marks his second top-20 finish of the year.

“Walt played very well today considering the course and the windy conditions,” said head coach Kit Grove. “As a team we are making steps in the right direction, but we are still frustrated with the overall result.”

Freshman Brad Hopfinger turned in another solid effort with a final-day 74 to finish the tournament tied for 23rd place. Hopfinger’s three-day score of 219 marks his low-54 hole score in his young Jayhawk career.

Junior Zach Pederson fired a final-round 76 to finish the tournament tied for 71st. Sophomore Bobby Knowles also shot a final-round 76 and finished in 78th place. Senior Joey Mundy finished tied for 81st after carding a final-day 81.
