Jayhawks complete day one in fourth at Price's Intercollegiate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Sophomore Emily Powers and freshman Grace Thiry set the pace for the Jayhawks as the University of Kansas completed the first round at the Price’s Give `Em Five Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. on Monday. The Sophomore-freshman combo led Kansas to a first round team score of 302, good enough for a three-way tie for fourth place on the day.

At the end of the first 18 holes, Kansas sits four strokes behind Big 12 rival and tournament leader Missouri. The Tigers carded a 298 on the par-72, 6319-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course. Two shots behind are Oklahoma and UC Davis in second place with 300 after one round.

The `Hawks completed day one with four competitors in the top 25. Powers and Thiry finished three-over-par in a tie for 16th, each firing first round scores of 75.

Kansas senior Annie Giangrosso carded a 76, while freshman Meghna Bal fired a 36 on the back nine to vault her into a tie with Giangrosso for 25th place at the end of round one. Freshman Sydney Wilson rounds out the young Jayhawk squad in a tie for 54th after earning a first round score of 79.

The Jayhawks will look to improve on their individual and team positions in the leaderboards as second-round action continues Tuesday.
