Downtown Block Party Thursday, Oct. 21, to Celebrate Homecoming and Hawk Talk with Turner Gill

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Athletics, The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Lawrence Inc. have partnered to host a block party on Massachusetts Street Thursday, October 21, from 5 p.m. to approximately 7:30 p.m. The event will coincide with the live broadcast of head football coach Turner Gill’s Hawk Talk radio show at Buffalo Wild Wings.

The 1000 block of Mass. Street will be closed to traffic from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to accommodate the celebration.

Festivities will include a pep rally featuring Turner Gill, the KU Pep Band and spirit squad, and a kid’s zone with inflatable games. .

The kid’s zone will open at 5 p.m. Hawk Talk begins at 6 p.m. inside Buffalo Wild Wings. Following the live broadcast, Turner Gill will address the crowd outside the restaurant.

The event celebrates KU’s Homecoming week and the Jayhawks’ football game vs. Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 23. Kickoff time is at 6 p.m.

Hawk Talk takes place Thursday nights throughout the football season from 6-7 p.m. at Buffalo Wild Wings. It is carried live on the Jayhawk Radio Network, including Lawrence’s KLWN.
