Brown and Samritpricha Conclude Bill Ross Intercollegiate

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Kansas men’s golfer Prem Ben Samritpricha shot his second-straight 74 (+2) on a day where winds gusted up to 35 miles per hour to tie for 21st in the final round of the Bill Ross Intercollegiate at Milburn Golf and Country Club Tuesday.

Samritpricha used 13 pars to guide his round, which also included two birdies. The freshman shot 75 or better in all three rounds of the event for a tournament total of 223 (+7).

“Ben was pretty steady today,” said Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel. “He made a lot of pars and hung right in there. Overall, Ben and Bryce (Brown) got three rounds of competition in. It provided good experience for them and hopefully we can build on that.”

After firing a 1-under 71 in the second round, junior Bryce Brown ran into some bad luck Tuesday when he hit two tee shots in the rough and could not find his ball among the fallen leaves on the ground. The lost balls led to a triple bogey on one hole and a double bogey on another as part of a 7-over 79. Brown finished the event in 27th with a 54-hole score 224 (+8).

“He was in the rough and couldn’t find his ball,” said Bermel. “Those things happen. It was a difficult day to play, and the four penalty strokes really hurt. He played pretty solid in the first two rounds. He just didn’t have it today.”

Kansas men’s golf will compete as a team at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate Oct. 22-23 in Las Cruces, N.M.
