Jayhawks take fourth at Price's "Give 'Em Five"

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – A young Jayhawk squad led Kansas to a fourth place finish on the final day of the Price’s “Give `Em Five” Invitational at the NMSU Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., Wednesday. The Jayhawks shared the fourth place standing with North Carolina State and Michigan after three days of play. Kansas fired rounds of 302-302-304 for a 44-over-par 908 to secure its position in the top five throughout the three-day event.

Sophomore Emily Powers led the way for the `Hawks as she tied for eighth with two other players after firing rounds of 75-71-77 for a score of 223. Her performance earned Powers her second top-10 finish of the season.

Oklahoma claimed top team honors, firing a 38-over-par 902 to edge out runner-up Idaho by four strokes. UC Davis finished in third, just one stroke behind the Vandals. Individual medalist Chelsea Stelzmiller powered UC Davis with a 3-over-par 219, while her teammate, Bryana Gregory, finished in second with a three-round score of 200.

Freshman Meghna Bal and Grace Thiry were Kansas’ next top finishers, finishing in tie for 23rd place with scores of 229 after three rounds of play. Both players fired third-round scores of 76 to advance five spots in the individual leaderboard from Tuesday.

Senior Annie Giangrosso finished in a tie for 29th place after carding a 230 (76-76-78). Freshman Sydney Wilson rounded out the Jayhawk field, just four strokes behind her veteran teammate, after firing her lowest round of 75 on the third day for a total score of 234 (79-80-75).

Next, the women’s golf team will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete at the UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate on Friday, Oct. 26.
