NORMAN, Okla. – Kansas women’s golf moved up one spot to ninth place after an improved performance from senior Katy Nugent in the second round at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla., on Tuesday.

“I put myself in good position off the tee today and was able to capitalize on some good approach shots,” Nugent said. “I hope to continue to climb up the leader board and finish well tomorrow.”

As a team, the Jayhawks improved by one stroke moving from 302 to 301 Monday to Tuesday. Nugent improved 11 strokes from a first round 84 to a 73 in round two; moving from a tie for 87th to a tie for 72nd. Sophomores Meghan Potee and Thanuttra Boonraksasat stayed consistent shooting 75 and 77 in both rounds, respectively.

“We had another steady day and held our own,” Head Coach Erin O’Neil said. “I’m very pleased with how Katy bounced back today with a 73. Meghan (Potee) and Audrey (Yowell) have also played well for us. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and take advantage of the weather conditions for the final round tomorrow.”

Junior Audrey Yowell dropped a stroke on Tuesday carding a 76 and in a tie for 34th while freshman Nadia Luttner finished in a tie for 66th with an 81. Playing as an individual, freshman Gabriella DiMarco carded an 80, dropping two strokes from Sunday’s round and is in a tie for 76th.

Kansas will need to keep improving on Tuesday in order to move up the leader board. The Jayhawks will wrap up play at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic with the final round on Tuesday.
