Jayhawks Drop Match to Aggies, 3-0

Sophomore Savannah Noyes totaled 11 kills on a .556 hitting efficiency as Kansas volleyball fell to Texas A&M, 3-0, Saturday night at G. Rollie White Coliseum. With the 30-28, 30-24, 30-23 loss, the Jayhawks moved to 10-10 overall and 3-8 in Big 12 Conference play.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Noyes tallied double-digit kills for the 13th time this season and committed just one error in 18 attempts for a match-best .556 attack percentage. Junior Emily Brown added 10 kills and 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the year in the loss.

Senior Jana Correa and freshman Brittany Williams each added nine kills to round out the <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Kansas hitters. Redshirt freshman Katie Martincich ran the offense with 31 assists and added nine digs. Freshman Melissa Grieb led all players with 15 digs and senior Jamie Mathewson totaled 12.

The Jayhawks came out strong in Game One behind five kills each from Brown and Noyes. KU held the TAMU offense to a .073 hitting efficiency (11 kills/eight errors/41 attempts) and the teams came to a 28-28 tie. A kill from Aggie freshman Mary Batis and hitting error by Correa gave TAMU (10-9, 3-8) the game.

TAMU used a 5-0 run to take an 8-4 lead and led by as many as nine in Game Two. The Jayhawks mirrored the Aggies’ Game One performance, hitting just .073 in the game with 13 kills, 10 errors and 41 attempts.

Correa pounded six of her nine kills and the Jayhawks scored the first two points to open the third game, but A&M answered with a 15-3 run to take a 10-point lead. Kansas could get no closer than six points before freshman Mary Batis, powered an attack off the Jayhawk block for the match-winning kill.

KU hosts No. 23 Oklahoma Wednesday at the HorejsiFamilyAthleticsCenter. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and the match will be televised on Metro Sports.
