Sophomore Paulina Los and junior Monica Pezzotti won the championship match of the Main Doubles Draw Saturday on the second day of the 2011 KU Invitational at Jayhawk Tennis Center. Kansas went 1-1 in doubles competition and 3-2 in singles competition.

The strong tandem of Los and Pezzotti defeated Kansas State’s Karla Bonacic and Carmen Borau Ramos, 9-8(2) before taking down Indiana’s Carolyn Chupa and Katie Klyczek, 8-6, to win the top doubles spot in the tournament.

Sophomore Amy Barnthouse will play in the championship match of Singles Draw E Sunday after defeating UMKC’s Jessica Ball, 6-1, 6-4, to advance to the finals. Both Junior Victoria Khanevskaya and freshman Karen Hernandez will play for fifth place in their respective singles draws. Khanevskaya took down UMKC’s Maddie Shulte, 6-4, 6-3, to advance in Singles Draw D and Hernandez downed Eva Dalvai of UMKC, 1-6, 6-3, 10-8, to move on in Singles Draw C.

The Jayhawks will take the court again Sunday for the third and final day of the KU Invitational. Matches are set to begin at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at 9 a.m.
