Postgame Quotes

Kansas 1, Baylor 0

Oct. 26, 2008 – Lawrence, Kan.

Kansas head coach Mark Francis

On the team clinching a spot in the Big 12 Championship:

“It’s great, but that’s not really our goal this year. We’ve been there eight years in a row. Our goal at the beginning of the year was to make the NCAA Tournament and just about everybody I talk to says you have to have at minimum 12 wins to put yourself in position to get in. So we’re a game away from that. Obviously, Friday’s game at Missouri will be a really tough game. We need to go into that with the mindset that we need to win. The conference tournament is after that, so right now we have to focus on Friday.”

On Monica Dolinsky’s goal:

“She’s scored a couple of goals like that this year. Monica is smart, and she knew that with the wind at her back, all she needed to do was to put it on frame and the wind would take care of the rest of it. She put it upper 90, and I don’t think anybody was going to get to that.”

On the playing conditions:

“I was a little disappointed, because we had some other really good chances that we didn’t finish. But the conditions today were really difficult. To try to play the way we try to play – which is moving the ball on the ground – it was very difficult. Baylor did a good job (of defending). They man-marked us in the midfield and that made it hard on us to get open and get in rhythm. I think the conditions were tough for both teams.”

On what stands out about this year’s senior class:

“Their perseverance. They’ve had a little bit of a tough run, they’ve had some pretty good seasons. I think their freshman year we tied for second (in the Big 12), and then we won 11 games the next year and finished fourth and didn’t make the (NCAA) tournament in either year. So, I think that this year they want it so bad, that I really hope – that if for no other reason – we’re able to get the job done and still be playing in a couple of weeks.”
