Jayhawks Down Mavericks in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – Freshman Chelsie Miller won two events, leading the Jayhawks in a 137-98, victory for Kansas over Nebraska-Omaha, Thursday evening at the HPER Swimming Pool.

The Houston, Texas native, returned to Omaha, where she competed in the Olympic trail qualifier last summer, and placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (59.64) and in the 200-yard IM (2:09.17), guiding the Jayhawks to their second dual victory of the year.

Junior Morgan Sharp also picked up a pair of first-place finishes for Kansas (2-1), who won 10 of the 13 events on the night, capturing the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.02) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:17.68).

Senior Christy Cash and freshman Meredith Brownell took first place in the three-meter (264.97) and the one-meter (249.30) diving events respectively, giving Kansas a sweep on the boards.

Junior Alison Moffit placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.15), while sophomores Alina Vats and Deanna Marks won the 100-yard freestyle (52.80) and the 100-yard backstroke (58.94) to round out the top performances from the Jayhawks in their win over the Mavericks.

Nebraska-Omaha (0-4) swept the 100 breast, led by junior Madeline Hutt’s time of 1:06.15. Junior Erin Wright (1:10.35) and freshman Jordane Linhart (1:11.71) followed in second and third, respectively.

The Jayhawks will return home next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, to host a double dual meet with new conference foe TCU and North Dakota at Robinson Natatorium. Action is slated to start at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
