West Defeats Midwest In Baseball Scrimmage

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior left-handed pitcher Travis Goset (Temecula, Calif.) threw seven shutout innings to lead the West Team over the Midwest Team on Tuesday as the University of Kansas competed in game one of its last series of the fall at Hoglund Ballpark.

Goset, who was clocked in the 85-87 mph range, limited the Midwest Team to only three hits, while striking out three batters and walking only one. Senior Jacob JEan (Antelope, Calif.) and junior Kodiak Quick (Belton, Mo.) each gave the West Team a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout.

Senior first baseman Travis Dunlap (Phoenix, Ore.) had two hits, including a two-run home run, in the contest for theWest Team, while freshman infielder Erik Morrison (Arroyo, Grande, Calif.) and senior outfielder Jake Kauzlarich (Seattle, Wash.) also posted two-hit days at the plate.

Senior right-handed pitcher Michael Fitch (Pittsfield, Ill.) took the loss for the Midwest Team, as he pitched four innings and allowed three runs on four hits.

The team will continue the West/Midwest series on Wednesday and Thursday with a scrimmage at 4:30 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark on each day.
