The Kansas defense, which entered the game ranked third in the Big 12 in rush defense, has shut down the high-powered Tigers’ ground attack. Despite two first quarter possessions that started in Kansas’ territory, the Jayhawks held the Tigers to only a field goal. The Tigers have managed only 38 rushing yards on 17 carries and 75 yards of total offense on 32 plays in the first half.

Midway through the first quarter, a 19-yard punt return by Charles Gordon moved the junior cornerback into 10th place all-time in Big 12 career punt return yards. Gordon also vaulted into 11th in all-time receptions at Kansas with a six-yard reception in the second quarter. In the first half, Gordon had four catches for 25 yards.

The Jayhawks took the lead in the second quarter when senior running back Clark Green scored his second rushing touchdown of the season. Green rushed for 26 yards on the drive and put the Jayhawks ahead 6-3 on a one-yard plunge with 6:05 left in the first half. Senior quarterback Jason Swanson made a key play on the drive, rushing for 4 yards on third down inside the Tigers’ five-yard line.
