Kansas Football Leads Iowa State 9-7 at Halftime

AMES, Iowa – Behind the leg of PK Jacob Branstetter, the University of Kansas football team leads Iowa State 9-7 at halftime at Jack Trice Stadium.

KU got two field goals in the first quarter from Branstetter including kicks of 34 and 42 yards into a stiff wind.

Iowa State scored its only points on a 62 yard punt return by Josh Lenz midway through the second.

Branstetter ended the half with a 38 yard field with the wind to give the Jayhawks the halftime advantage.

Junior college transfer quarterback Quinn Mecham made his first start and was 9-of-14 passing for 78 yards in the half. He completed passes to five different receivers. RB Angus Quigley caught three balls for 49 yards.

Freshman James Sims led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 54 yards while Quigley carried 10 times for 45 yards.

ISU quarterback Austen Arnaud completed 4-of-10 passes for 31 yards. Alexander Robinson has 68 rushing yards on seven carries.

Kansas outgained the Cyclones 170 yards to 122 yard in total offense.
