Oct. 31, 2005

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

University of Kansas senior Caroline Smith and junior Holly Gault were named All-Big 12 First Team as voted on by the league head coaches. Freshmen Jessica Bush and Missy Geha were honored on the Big 12 Newcomer Team. Gault was a unanimous selection.

KU’s all-time leader in goals, points and assists, Smith leads Kansas in goals (8), assists (8) and points (24) this season. The Edina, Minn., native becomes the first KU player to be named All-Big 12 First Team three times.

For the second consecutive season Gault earned first team honors. The defender was also named All-Big 12 Second Team in 2003. This season, Gault has tallied four goals and six assists while helping KU post eight shutouts. Last week the Spring Hill, Kan., native was named to the Big 12 10th Anniversary Team.

A Blue Springs, Mo., native, Bush holds the KU school record for assists by a freshman (6). The midfielder has contributed four goals on the season, three for game-winners.

Geha has started all 19 matched in the midfield this season for KU. The Overland Park, Kan., native has scored three goals, including two game-winners.
