KU's Barbee Named Big 12 Golfer Of The Month For October

Nov. 3, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior Nate Barbee was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month for October it was announced by the league office Wednesday.

Barbee became just the third Jayhawk and first since the fall of 2003 to earn the award since its inception in 2002-03. The Dakota Dunes, S.D. product joins former KU honorees Kris Marshall (October, 2002) and Andrew Price (September, 2003).

Barbee’s month included two top-10 finishes, including an individual title at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate. Barbee posted a one-stroke victory in leading Kansas to a second-place team finish at the event hosted by Missouri-Kansas City.

He then fought back from an opening-round 79 to card rounds of 69 and 66 to tie for 10th at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. During the tournament Barbee recorded three eagles, more than any team produced as a whole. His effort helped the Jayhawks to the team title.

Competing in 17 rounds this fall, Barbee tied for second in scoring average on the team at 73.6. He led the team in scoring average as both a junior and senior, while ranking second as a freshman back in 2008.

Last year Barbee was a PING All-Region selection, while also earning Academic All-Big 12 First Team honorees.

Kansas will open its spring schedule at the Wyoming Desert Classic in Palm Desert, Calif., Feb. 26-27.
