Svistun And Dorn Earn Runner-Up Finish At Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Playing together for just the third time this season, the doubles pair of junior Yuliana Svistun and sophomore Kunigunda Dorn captured a second place finish in the Gold Draw at the Seminole Invitational on Saturday. The duo fell 8-5 to the mixed tandem of Florida State’s Suess and Georgia Tech’s Hickey in the championship match. Svistun and Dorn finished the tourney with a 2-1 mark in doubles action.

In other doubles action, the Jayhawk pair of freshmen Maria Martinez and Mymie Tokuda dropped the consolation match, earning a fourth place finish in the Black Bracket.

Svistun dropped to 9-4 on the season in singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Cruz of South Carolina State in Saturday’s semi-final action. Svistun will take on Florida International’s Pazo for the third place trophy in the Black Bracket on Sunday.

Also competing for a third place finish will be Martinez as she will play Tessmar of New Mexico after dropping a 6-1, 6-2 semi-final match to Cutuk of Florida International.

Edina Horvath will play Serrot of Central Florida for 5th place in the Gold Bracket after defeating Wasilewski of Miami 2-6, 7-5 (10-8) on Saturday.

The final day of action at the Seminole Invitational will begin at 8 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 4.
