Garlington Earns Second Academic All-District Award

LAWRENCE, Kan. –

For the second time in her career, senior Karina Garlington has been named ESPN Academic All-District, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Garlington, who was a third team honoree in 2008, was named to the second-team for maintaining a 3.77 cumulative grade point average during her collegiate career as a sports management major. This season, Garlington has been the Jayhawks’ most consistent offensive threat as she is sixth in the Big 12 Conference averaging 3.52 kills per set. She also ranks fourth all-time at Kansas in career kills, while her 3.16 kps career average ranks seventh.

ESPN Academic All-District and All-America honorees are nominated, voted on and awarded by members of CoSIDA. Student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or better and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Garlington and the Kansas volleyball team host Colorado on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.
