LAWRENCE, Kan. –

Kansas wrapped up the exhibition portion of its schedule by overcoming a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Washburn, 68-62, Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks were led by sophomore Marija Zinic’s 15 points and seven rebounds.

Kansas exploded in the second half offensively with 44 points. The Jayhawks were able to convert 15 of their 28 second-half field goal attempts.

The Jayhawk freshmen produced once again, led by Danielle McCray who scored 13 points and LaChelda Jacobs, who added 10 points.

Kansas held the Lady Blues to just 33 percent shooting from the field in the second half and forced 24 turnovers. Jacobs, a Mansfield, Tex. native, led the way with four steals.

Kansas overcame a nine-point second half deficit to take the lead at the 9:31 mark after going on an 18-6 run.

Washburn led the Jayhawks 29-24 at halftime behind four three-point field goals.

Kansas opens the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 11 against the Seton Hall Pirates at 2 p.m at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo. The game will be part of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Classic.
