LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Associated Press once again ranked the Kansas men’s basketball team in the Top 10 as the organization released its preseason poll Monday.

Kansas enters the 2006-07 season ranked No. 3 by AP, the same spot as the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Preseason Poll released Oct. 27.

Since the 1992-93 campaign, this year marks the 12th time in the last 14 seasons KU has been ranked ninth or higher by the AP. In 1999-2000 the Jayhawks were No. 11 in the preseason AP poll and were unranked last season.

KU was ranked No. 1 in the 2004-05 AP and coaches’ preseason polls. Since 1985-86, Kansas has been ranked in the AP preseason Top 10 on 16 occasions.

Last year, Kansas was not ranked in either of the preseason polls for the first time since the 1990-91 season. The Jayhawks climbed to No. 12 in the final Associated Press poll by winning 13 of their final 14 regular season games and the Big 12 Championship.

Kansas will face four teams ranked in the AP preseason poll – No. 1 Florida (Nov. 25 in Las Vegas), No. 13 Texas A&M (Feb. 13), No. 15 Boston College (Dec. 23) and No. 21 Texas (March 3). Other KU opponents receiving votes in the poll include Oklahoma State (Jan. 10), USC (Dec. 4) and Kansas State (Feb. 7 in Lawrence, Feb. 19 at K-State).
