KU's Davis, Goodrich Rated among Nation's Elite

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Further proof that the Kansas women’s basketball roster includes two of the top players in the nation was revealed Tuesday as espnW announced its top-five players at each position list and KU seniors Carolyn Davis and Angel Goodrich were among the 25 players mentioned.
Goodrich, a 5-foot-4 point guard who led the nation is assists per game last season, was listed as one of the top-five point guards in the country, along with Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins, Duke’s Chelsea Gray, Connecticut’s Bria Hartley and Baylor’s Odyssey Sims.
Davis was recognized as one of the best five centers, joined by Brittney Griner (Baylor), Kelsey Bone (Texas A&M), Stefanie Dolson (Connecticut) and Elizabeth Williams (Duke).
Kansas was one of only four schools to have at least two players named to the 25-member list, joining Connecticut (3), Baylor (2) and Maryland (2). The list was compiled by espnW’s Charlie Creme, Kate Fagan, Graham Hays, Michelle Smith and Mechelle Voepel.
Davis and Goodrich are also both candidates on the Wade Trophy Watch List. Regarded as “The Heisman of Women’s Basketball,” the Wade Trophy is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA.
Davis led the Jayhawks in scoring last season with 16.9 points per game, while becoming the 23rd Jayhawk to score 1,000 career points. She was named 2012 WBCA All-America Honorable Mention and earned All-Big 12 First Team honors, despite only playing in 23 games after suffering a season-ending knee injury at Kansas State.
Goodrich paced KU with 14.0 points per game as she guided the Jayhawks to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, their best postseason run since 1998. She also broke a Kansas and Big 12 Conference record, tallying 250 assists on the season. Goodrich has already been named a preseason All-America selection by both the Associated Press and Lindy’s this season.
Davis and Goodrich, along with the rest of the Kansas Jayhawks open regular-season play Sunday, when KU hosts Idaho State at 2 p.m., inside historic Allen Fieldhouse.
