LAWRENCE, Kan. – Team Blue used four unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth and an epic three-run homer by senior Jake Marasco in the seventh to topple Team Crimson, 7-1, in the seventh and deciding game of the Crimson & Blue World Series last week at Hoglund Ballpark. The seven-game series wrapped up KU’s fall season, which began on Sept. 27.

Blue won the annual Crimson & Blue World Series by winning the first two games and the final two in convincing fashion, 14-3 in Game 6 and 7-1 in Game 7.

Kansas head coach Ritch Price was pleased with the progress the team showed during the fall and the competitive series played to wrap things up.

“In my 10 years at KU, this is the most we have had a team improve from the first day of fall practice, until the final day of workouts,” Price said.

“The weather has been fantastic, my assistant coaches did an excellent job in player development and the work ethic and enthusiasm from our entire team was outstanding. If we continue to work hard in the weight room and conditioning workouts, our players will conclude the fall semester primed for a really good spring in 2012.”

The Jayhawks will open their 2012 regular season on Feb. 17 at Middle Tennessee State.
