In its last home match of the season, the Kansas volleyball team (15-13, 7-11 Big 12) will take on Texas Tech (2-25, 0-18 Big 12) on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in a 6:30 p.m. match. Seniors Melissa Grieb, Katie Martincich, Paige Mazour and Brittany Williams will be making their final appearances in the Horejsi Family Athletics Center.

About Kansas

Kansas duo Allison Mayfield and Karina Garlington pace the Jayhawk offense with 3.65 kps (fifth in the Big 12) and 3.36 kps (sixth in the Big 12), respectively. In conference matches, Mayfield is even better at 3.89 kps. Nicole Tate is handing out 10.93 aps for Kansas, a mark which ranks in the top 40 nationally. Defensively, Melissa Manda is one of five players for KU averaging over two digs per set with 3.65 dps. In the last eight matches, Melissa Grieb has stepped in to play libero leading the Jayhawks with 4.31 dps in that span.

Scouting Texas Tech

Texas Tech has gone winless in its last 20 matches and is 2-25 overall and 0-18 in Big 12 play. Sophomore Amanda Dowdy is seventh in the Big 12 as she paces the Red Raiders with 3.33 kps along with a team-high 22 service aces. Sophomore Karlyn Meyers is assisting the TTU offense averaging 8.30 aps. Defensively, six players contribute over a kill per set led by senior Jenn Goehry’s 2.27 dps. Along the front line, junior Barbara Conceicao is second among conference players averaging 1.26 bps.

Trish Knight is in her first season as head coach at Texas Tech and owns a 678-195-3 overall record in her 16th season of coaching.

Series Information

Kansas owns a 7-6 advantage in matches played in Lawrence, but Texas Tech leads the all-time series history 15-13. The Jayhawks have swept the series the last two seasons and have won five-straight matches versus the Red Raiders.

Last Meeting With the Red Raiders – 10.21.09

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Melissa Manda dug up a team-best 20 balls while senior Melissa Grieb added a season-high 14 as the University of Kansas volleyball team swept its second-straight opponent at Texas Tech. KU won 25-17, 25-17 and 25-20.

The Red Raiders struggled against an efficient Kansas defense as the Jayhawks out-dug TTU 57-48 and held TTU to a .050 attack percentage. KU’s front row also provided a solid line of defense as senior Paige Mazour led the team with five block assists.

Mayfield led the Jayhawks on offense for the fifth time in the last six outings collecting 15 kills. Senior Brittany Williams and junior Karina Garlington followed with eight more a piece.

NCAA Tournament Selection Show

The 2009 NCAA Tournament selection show is set to air on ESPNews on Sunday, Nov. 29 from 2-2:30 p.m. The Big 12’s regular-season winner will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament. Texas has already clinched at least a share of the Big 12 title. To be considered for an at-large bid, teams must have a .500 record or better.

KU Volleyball Signs Four Players for 2010-11

Kansas volleyball signed four players to National Letters of Intent, including a top-50 prospect and the top player in the Kansas City area. Marianne Beal, Jessie Allen and Kara and Amy Wehrs will all begin their college volleyball careers with the Jayhawks during the 2010-11 academic year.
