Dec. 4, 2004

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas swimming and diving team defeated Houston, 267-83, and fell to Harvard, 194.5-157.5, in a double dual meet held Fri. and Sat. at Robinson Natatorium. Nine events were held in the second session, Sat., which included the three-meter diving competition.

Kansas began the session for the second-consecutive time with a Robinson Natatorium-record setting performance, coming in the 400 medley relay. Seniors Amy Gruber and Miranda Isaac, junior Lindsey Urbatchka and freshman Terri Schramka teamed up to finish in a time of 3:48.11. Gruber also picked up a couple of individual wins during the second session of the two-day meet. The Bigelow, Ark., native won the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.90 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 56.04.

“We were very pleased with how we competed this weekend,” head coach Clark Campbell said. “Coming off the Nike Cup the way we did was a real tribute to our athletes.”

In the three-meter diving competition, sophomore Shelby Noonan was the top Kansas diver, as she finished in fourth with a score of 276.05.

“We are way ahead of the curve of where we were last year at this time,” Campbell added. “Now we go into a break with good swims and we will prepare for the Big 12 and NCAA Championships.”

This weekend’s meet concludes the pre-winter break portion of the Jayhawks’ schedule. Kansas will next be in action Jan. 15, when they travel to Lincoln, Neb., to face Nebraska in a Big 12 Conference dual meet.
