Kansas Places Three on NSCAA All-Central Region Team

120811aab_722_5569084.jpegLAWRENCE, Kan. – Junior Whitney Berry of the Kansas soccer team was named NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team Thursday morning, while freshmen Liana Salazar and Ingrid Vidal were place on the third team. It marks the second-most all-region selections in program history.

Berry, an All-Big 12 First Team honoree, had a record-setting season in which the midfielder collected 13 assists to break a 10-year program record. Her 13 helpers were the seventh-most among Division I players and her 29 points on the season led the Jayhawks. With one more year remaining, the Wichita, Kan., product is second all-time at Kansas with 25 assists, fourth with 59 career points and sixth with 17 career goals.

120811aab_722_5569111.jpegVidal enjoyed one of the best seasons ever by a Kansas freshman. The Palmira, Colombia native recorded a team-high 11 goals in 2011 on her way to a KU freshmen record 28 points. Earlier this season Vidal was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Newcomer Team, while being ranked No. 17 among Division I freshman by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Like Vidal, Salazar had a productive freshman season. In eight conference games, the Bogota, Colombia native recorded at least one point in four matches. The midfielder joined Vidal on the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 Second Team.
