KU Women's Basketball Team To Visit Hospital Dec. 19, Deliver Crimson & Blue Product For 13th Year In A Row.

Dec. 13, 2005

Lawrence, Kan. — For the 13th consecutive year, the University of Kansas women’s basketball team will brighten up the holidays of patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. On Monday, Dec. 19, team members will visit the hospital and distribute items collected during the “Crimson & Blue Holiday Project.” Second-year Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson and her staff will lead the team through the hospital.

During the visit the team will give patients a variety of KU-licensed product, including tee shirts, playing cards, pennants, and team posters. KU’s Trademark Licensing Office collects the items from the university’s official licensees, who donate the product for this event each year. This year, the licensees donated nearly 900 items with a retail value of over $8,000, according to Paul Vander Tuig, KU’s Trademark Licensing Director.

“Again this year, KU’s licensees have come through in a big way,” Vander Tuig said. “The project is a great way for the University to give something back to the community. When Coach or the team members walk into a patient’s room with a KU item, you can just see the burden of being in the hospital being lifted for a few moments, making the project very worthwhile.”

The visit is scheduled to start at 2:30.

The trademark licensing program collects fees and royalties from manufacturers authorized to commercially use KU’s trademarks. Royalties distributed from the program last fiscal year were $995,000 and were used to fund student and student-athlete scholarships at KU.
