Dec. 27, 2007

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Lawrence, Kan. – It was hard to tell who enjoyed the 2007 Bill Self Holiday Clinic more; the 17 University of Kansas men’s basketball players or the 500-plus kids who attended the clinic Thursday morning. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The children, who ranged from third through eighth graders, ran through drills and fundamental basketball instruction with current KU coaches, players and staff. Instruction was given on Naismith Court in Allen Fieldhouse, the RobinsonCenter and the Horejsi Family Athletic Facility, the practice gym for Kansas basketball.

The third-ranked Jayhawks and the clinic participants were all smiles throughout the day. In addition to the instruction, the kids were treated to an official campT-shirt and a 2007-08 Kansas basketball calendar; both of which were generously used by players and coaches throughout the one hour autograph session.

The players, posing for pictures at every opportunity, clearly enjoyed demonstrating their skill, with a few giving in to numerous chants for a dunk.

Head Coach Bill Self addressed the crowd at the beginning of camp with instruction on basic basketball fundamentals including footwork, shooting, passing, defense and much more. At the conclusion of the event, the attendees were able to get autographs from the coaches and players of the Jayhawks.
