Big 12 slate completes 2018-19 KU women’s hoops schedule

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas women’s basketball finalized its 2018-19 slate as the Big 12 Conference announced the league lineup for the upcoming season on Tuesday afternoon. 

KU’s final 18 games of the regular season begins on Saturday, Jan. 5 against Iowa State. The Jayhawks have opened their conference slate with the Cyclones the last two seasons. Kansas will hit the road for the first time in 2019 and face Texas Tech in Lubbock on Wednesday, Jan. 9.

The Jayhawks will face the four Big 12 teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season twice each in the league’s double round-robin format, including two teams that made appearances in the NCAA Sweet 16. Inside Allen Fieldhouse, the Jayhawks host Iowa State (Jan. 5), Baylor (Jan. 16), Oklahoma State (Jan. 19), Oklahoma (Jan. 30), Kansas State (Feb. 6), Texas (Feb. 9), Texas Tech (Feb. 17), TCU (Feb. 27) and West Virginia (March 2).

The 2019 Phillips Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship will be held March 8-11 at Chesapeake Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Jayhawks return 11 players from last season’s team and welcome four newcomers, freshmen guards Aniya Thomas and Brooklyn Mitchell and junior college transfers Mariane de Carvalho and Niccolly Ramalho.
 
Kansas returns 2017 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and 2017 All-Big 12 second-team selection senior guard Jessica Washington and 2018 All-Big 12 honorable mention selection senior guard Christalah Lyons.

Kansas’ 34th annual Late Night in the Phog presented by Hy-Vee, signaling the official start of KU’s hoops season, will be Friday, Sept. 28. Late Night in the Phog will feature music by the KU pep band, routines from KU’s spirit squad and dance teams, skits by both basketball teams, video highlights from KU’s award-winning Rock Chalk Video department, coach and student-athlete introductions, scrimmages by the KU women’s and men’s teams, and much more.

Season tickets are now on sale at just $109 for a full season of women’s basketball action in Allen Fieldhouse. Senior Citizen Reserved season tickets can be purchased for $80, while K Club Reserved season tickets are available at $75.

New for the 2018-2019 season, Kansas Athletics is introducing the Rock Chalk Card, which includes general admission to women’s basketball, soccer, softball and baseball are available for $175. The Rock Chalk Card and a women’s basketball reserved seat upgrade can be purchased for $225.
