Senior Sydney Conley flew a distance of 6.76 meters (22-2¼) on her first trip down the runway to post the eventual winning mark en route to earning her second Big 12 Conference long jump title. Topping the field by 18 inches, Conley also won the league title in 2015. Her effort, this year, slid Conley’s name up to No. 3 on the NCAA’s best list heading into the postseason championships later this month. Conley’s victory marked the fourth time in the last six years a Jayhawk has claimed the Big 12 outdoor long jump title.

Kansas junior Sharon Lokedi was named the Big 12 Outstanding Female Performer of the Year after running to victory in both the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters at the 2017 Big 12 Outdoor Championship, making her just the seventh female in the league’s history to win both events at a single meet. Lokedi was the Jayhawks’ high-point scorer, recording 20 of KU’s 84 points. The 20-point effort marked the third-most ever posted by a Jayhawk female at a Big 12 meet.

HUSSAIN AL HIZAM

Less than a week after claiming a gold medal at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, sophomore pole vaulter Hussain Al Hizam snared another gold, this time halfway around the world at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. Al Hizam, who currently is ranked third among NCAA collegians this year, vaulted to a height of 5.55 meters (18-2½) for the win this past weekend in Baku, Azerbaijan. Two weekends ago at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, Al Hizam slid over the bar at 5.56 meters (18-2¾), the best Jayhawk mark in the history of the Big 12 Outdoor meet.

Freshman Gleb Dudarev snagged his second Big 12 title of 2017 with a dominant performance in the hammer throw at the Big 12 Outdoor Championship. He entered the event as the NCAA and conference leader, and the 2017 Big 12 weight throw champion unleashed a season-best hammer throw of 74.20 meters (243-5) on his second trip into the ring. That marksurpassed his own school record by nearly five feet and he remains the NCAA leader in the event. His school-record mark is more than six feet better than the second-ranked thrower in KU history.
