Kansas track & field junior Sharon Lokedi recorded her second school record of the indoor season on Friday, February 9 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.

A native of Eldoret, Kenya, Lokedi clocked a time of 8:59.69 in the 3,000-meter run at the ISU Classic to break the Kansas women’s indoor school record in the event by 17 seconds. The mark was the fourth-best in the NCAA at the time, and currently ranks Lokedi eighth in Division I.

Lokedi also broke the Kansas women’s indoor school record in the 5,000-meter run earlier this season, clocking a time of 15:39.05 at the Boston University Season Opener on December 2. That time still stands at the No. 5 time in the nation, putting the distance standout in prime position to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in both events.

Athletes who rank in the top-16 in the nation in their respective events after February 25 will qualify for the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas, March 9-10.

The Jayhawks will conclude pre-conference action this weekend with split squad action at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on February 16 and at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on February 17. The Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championship will take place in Ames, Iowa, February 23-24.
