RCW: Sports Industry Career Night connects former, current student-athletes
KU Leads and The University of Kansas School of Business partnered to host a Sports Industry Career Night on Tuesday, October 25, in Hadl Auditorium. This event was open to any student-athlete or KU business school student.
Attendees were treated to the insight of five extremely accomplished sports industry professionals. The panel included: Matt Baty, KU Associate Athletics Director Williams Education Fund Marketing and Sales; Theresa Becker, KU Associate Athletics Director Administration; Dan Crumb, Kansas City Chiefs CFO; Lee Ice, Lawrence Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Supervisor; and Josh Williamson, Assistant Director of Marketing and Fan Experience.
Their career paths offered students a wide range of experiences in the industry including professional sports, intercollegiate athletics and youth sports. Three of the panelists: Baty, Ice and Williamson, were once themselves Jayhawk student-athletes.
KU Leads, the Kansas Jayhawks’ student-athlete development unit, focuses on leadership training, community engagement, traditions and professional development to enhance the student-athlete experience. Within KU Leads, the Kansas K Club – the department’s letterwinners association – has the mission is to help preserve the history and traditions of Kansas Athletics, support current student-athletes, and connect former participants, coaches, student athletic trainers and managers of varsity sports at the University of Kansas.
