Come “Rock the Track” with the Kansas Track and Field team on November 9th from 10 a.m – noon inside KU’s indoor facility, Anschutz Sports Pavilion. Kids kindergarten through fifth grade can have fun running, jumping and throwing with the KU track & field team and receive instructional guidance from some the best athletes in the Big 12. The “Rock the Track” experience is free. In addition, all participating kids receive a medal that gives your child free admission to the Kansas Relays, April 15-18. Rock the Track is open to the first 300 to register.

Details

The primarily emphasis of “Rock the Track” is to provide your child with a fun experience while introducing the sport of track and field. The KU athletes will provide age-appropriate instruction with an emphasis on having FUN! Events include age appropriate low hurdles, long jump, throws (safe turbo javelin and shot put), sprints, assisted pole vault and photos.

Children will be divided into groups based on age and guided to different stations inside Anschutz Sports Pavilion. Parents are welcome to follow their child to each station.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

9:45 - 10 a.m. Check in at North entrance of Anschutz Pavilion
10 a.m.Introduction and group warmup
10:15 a.m.Station 1
10:30 a.m.Station 2
10:45 a.m.Station 3
11 a.m.Station 4
11:15 a.m.Station 5
11:30 a.m.Station 6
11:45 a.m.Relay Race
12 p.m.Pictures with athletes, mascots, autographs

 

 

Final relay race

Kids (with option to include parents) will be divided into teams of four for a relay race to end the event.

Children will receive a medal

Your child can show their “Rock the Track” medal for free admission into the 93rd Kansas Relays on April 15-18.

Day of Check In:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for check in.

Tables will be set up with for check in by last name. Children and parents will receive their pre-assigned group based on the child’s age.

What to Bring:

  • Camera
  • Water bottle to carry around (Water WILL be provided)
  • Proper running attire (shoes, clothes, no track spikes, please)
  • Any personal medical care or gear (inhaler, etc.)
  • Canned foods to donate to Just Foods (optional)
  • A ready-to-have-fun positive attitude!

PARKING

The Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage, north of Allen Fieldhouse is available.

Please enter through doors on west end of Wagnon. Check in is at the north entrance of Anschutz Pavilion.
