Kawinpakorn Leads Jayhawks After Day One in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The 41st ranked Kansas women’s golf team currently sits in fifth place with a first round 316 (+28) behind Yupaporn “Mook” Kawinpakorn’s 77 (+5) at the 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate, Friday in Augusta, Ga., at the Forest Hills Golf Club.
Mook started off the day slow as she finished her first two holes three over par. She quickly recovered and recorded two birdies in the next nine holes. Mook currently sits in a tie for 12th with her 5-over par.
Also contributing to the Jayhawks effort was Thanuttra “Fhong” Boonraksasat who shot a 7-over par, 79, which places her in a tie for 20th in the 75-player field. Fhong ended the round in a clutch manner as she finished with a birdie and par on the final two holes.
KU junior Minami Levonowich and senior Meghan Potee both carded a day one 80, (+8) placing them both in a tie for 30th. Levonowich showed flashes of what she could do as she was able to record three birdies. Potee also contributed with her consistent play as she was the only player on the team to not record over a bogey.
Pornvipa “Faii” Sakdee ended her first day in Augusta with a 9-over par, 81, which puts her in a tie for 39th. Faii looks to build on her two birdie outing tomorrow as the Jayhawks prepare for the second round of the 3m Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate.
Gabriella DiMarco competed as an Individual for the Jayhawks and finished in a tie for 68th as she carded a 87, (+15) in the first round.
Fourteenth-ranked Vanderbilt currently leads the tournament with a first round 299, (+11). Sitting in second place is 46th ranked East Tennessee State which carded a day one 309, (+21).
Lacey Fears of Mercer University and Samantha Postillion of Illinois currently sit in a tie for first as they both shot a 73 (+1).
The 3M Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate will continue with one round, 18 holes, tomorrow Saturday March 15, and conclude with 18 final holes on Sunday March 16.
