LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s golf team will head Dallas, Texas to play its final regular-season event of 2014-15 at the SMU/DAC Invitational at the Dallas Athletic Club (DAC), April 10-11.
Representing the Jayhawks will be seniors Minami Levonowich, Gabriella DiMarco and Michelle Woods, junior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn and sophomore Pornvipa Sakdee.
The SMU/DAC Invitational will have a 16-team field that will include Kansas, UC Davis, Grand Canyon, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Miami (Florida), Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Purdue, TCU, UTSA, Texas Tech, Tulsa and host SMU.
After having a week off of competition, Kansas head coach Erin O’Neil is ready to see how the Jayhawks will compete and respond at this upcoming tournament.
“The most important thing we can do this week is be mentally tough above all else, which means being committed to our decisions, focus on the process of each shot rather than the result and believe in ourselves especially when we are in a difficult situation.” O’Neil said. “We have had a solid two weeks to practice and now it’s time to trust in that preparation.”
The SMU/DAC Invitational will be a two-round, stroke play event unlike KU’s last event, the SDSU Farms Invitational match play competition in San Diego. The Jayhawks finished with a 2-2 record and 11th place overall in San Diego, March 23-25.
The Dallas Athletic Club is a par-72, 6,345-yard golf course that includes eight lakes and many mature trees that are combined with modern design techniques designed by famous golfer Jack Nicklaus. Last year, when the Jayhawks finished fifth at the SMU/DAC tourney which lasted only two rounds due to final round getting canceled because of lightning. Kawinpakorn led the Jayhawks as she finished tied for seventh and had a 36-hole score of 147 (+3) in last year’s Dallas tourney.
The Jayhawks will play its first two rounds, 36 holes, on Friday, April 10, with the final round on April 11. Live scoring can be found at golfstat.com.
