Cedo Falls at U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship

PARAMUS, N.J. – Kansas women’s golfer Annika Cedo lost, 3 and 2, to Jin Wen Lu in the round of 32 at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey Thursday.

An incoming freshman at KU this fall, Cedo entered match play as the No. 47 seed and defeated the No. 17 seed, Connor Beth Ball, 1 up, Wednesday, July 20, in her first match of the event. Lu was the 15th seed for the championship and moved on to Friday’s round of 16.

Neither Cedo nor Lu had control of the match through the first 11 holes, as no one led by more than one hole. With Cedo 1 up heading to No. 12, Lu carded two-straight birdies and three pars in winning four of the next five holes to earn the match.

From the Phillipines, Cedo qualified for match play by finishing tied for 38th in the 156-golfer field after shooting a two-round 153 (+7) in the stroke play portion of the championship, July 18-19. Last year, she advanced to the quarterfinals of the event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
