New Orleans, La. – New Orleans, La. – Senior Ariadna Fonseca Diaz and Sophomore Yi-Tsen Chou led Kansas thru round two of the Sugar Bowl Invitational finishing 1-over (73). The Jayhawks shot 18-over for the round (306) and now sit in 13th as a team.

“(Monday) was pretty windy and we did a good job of amaging ourselves throughout most of the round,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “It really came down to our last two holes where we gave away too many shots.”

Fonseca Diaz shot 1-over on the back nine with just a single bogie hindering her score on No. 17, her eighth of the day. On the front nine, she carded a bogie on No. 3 followed by a birdie on No. 6. Fonseca Diaz ended the round with a bogie on No. 8 but fired back with a birdie on No. 9. Fonseca Diaz now sits in 19th going into the final round.

Chou also had a consistent day for KU carding a bogie on No. 11, her second the day to finish the back nine 1-over. Followed by a birdie and bogie on the front nine to finish even on the front nine. Chou sits in a tie for 26th.

“Ari and Yi-Tsen had great rounds today especially with as windy as it was,” said O’Neil. “Both of them are hitting the ball well and I like where they are with their confidence.”

Victoria Chandra finished 1-over in round one but struggled today finishing 11-over, she now sits in a tie for 65th. Chomchana Phuchanbanchob is in a tie for 71st after shooting 10-over. Xinyun Yu shot even through the back nine but a triple-bogie on the front nine kept her from lower numbers. Yu finished 6-over for the day and is now in 81st.

“(Tuesday) is a new day and we need to reset our expectations and continue to be disciplined,” said O’Neil. “We are still in a good position to move up the leaderboard going into the final round but we definitely need to take care of the things in our control to make that happen.”

Kansas will enter the final round of the Sugar Bowl Invitational Tuesday at 8 a.m.
