JOHN’S ISLAND, S.C. – Freshman Sera Tadokoro returned to competition for the first time this spring and showed no signs of rust during day one of the Briar’s Creek Invite. Tadokoro shot even (72) in both rounds and will enter the final round tied for 15th place.

“We are so very proud of Sera,” said head coach Erin O’Neil. “She worked very diligently to get healthy after being injured at the beginning of the semester. This is a great course for Sera’s game. She played steady (Monday) with lots of pars, hopefully some birdie putts will drop her if she stays patient.”

As a team, Kansas finished day one in a tie for seventh place.  The Jayhawks shot a 5-over (293) in the first round and followed with a 7-over (295) in round two.

“Overall, I’m pleased with what I saw (Monday),” said O’Neil. “For the most part we hit well especially off the tee and handled ourselves well when things didn’t go our way.”

Junior Ariadna Fonseca Diaz shot 4-over in the first round carding just one birdie and three bogies. Diaz heated up in the second round where she shot three birdies to help her end round two at 1-under. Diaz enters the final round 3-over and tied for 30th.

Chomchana Phuchanbanchob matched the course in round one but struggled in round two, shooting 5-over. Phuchanbanchob enters day two in a tie for 41st.

After coming off a career-low round at the previous event, Xinyun Yu ended the day 6-over and tied for 45th. Yi-Tsen Chou shot a 74 in round one and a 78 in round two leaving her 8-over and in a tie for 56th.

As an individual, senior Kallie Gonzales also shot 8-over in day one and sits in a tie for 56th with fellow Jayhawk, Chou.

Kansas looks to move up the leaderboard in the final round, sitting just six strokes out of the top-5.

Day two begins Tuesday with a 8 a.m. ET shotgun start.
