Updated Season Stats

SAN ANTONIO – Kansas women’s golfer Yupaporn “Mook” Kawinpakorn earned her seventh top-five finish of the season at the Big 12 Championship Sunday. The senior tied for fifth by scoring 215 (-1), eight strokes behind individual champion Kenzie Neisen of Oklahoma State. With the fifth-place finish Kawinpakorn became the first Jayhawk to be named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team four times in her career.

“The year Mook has had is beyond description. She has set the bar high for the younger players and she’s shown them anything is possible if you work hard and persevere through the tough times,” KU head coach Erin O’Neil said. “We are so very proud of her.”

Playing on the 6,333-yard, par-72 Dominion Country Club, Kansas was able to move up two spots to seventh place with a third round score of 289 (+1), the team’s best 18-hole score of the tournament. The improved score was driven by under-par rounds from Kawinpakorn and sophomore Pitsinee “Lizzie” Winyarat, who both shot 70 (-2). Winyarat’s under-par score in the third round marked the second consecutive tournament where she recorded one round under-par. She tied for 32nd in the conference tourney with a 54-hole score of 225 (+9).

“Lizzie’s putting was excellent today with 25 total putts and she was in a good state mentally. She didn’t play scared, focused on committing to each shot and was able to get into a good rhythm early on in the round,” O’Neil said. “Hopefully today was a good learning experience which will motivate her to push herself even more in practice so that she can continue to shoot even-par or better consistently.”

KU junior Pornvipa Sakdee finished second on the team with a score of 217 (+1). The junior tied for 12th, giving her two consecutive top-20 finishes. Freshman Ariadna Fonseca Diaz carded 230 (+14) to finish 43rd. Fellow freshman Victoria Chandra recorded 232 (+16) to placed 44th.

“We putted well today and kept our heads on straight, which helped us have a solid final round,” O’Neil said.

Oklahoma State took home the Big 12 Championship with a score of 856 (-8). Kansas’ seventh-place finish was its eighth top-10 finish of the season.

NCAA team and individual selections will be televised April 25 at 5 p.m. (Central) on the Golf Channel. Kawinpakorn is vying to compete in an NCAA regional for the third consecutive season, while Sakdee is hoping to qualify for her first NCAA regional as an individual and second overall.
