April 9, 2011

AUSTIN, Texas –

The Kansas track team closed out a successful weekend Saturday at the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. A host of Jayhawks had career performances during the first three days of the event. This trend continued on Saturday as several more competed against the some of the best athletes in the country.

Sophomore Jesse Vaughn had his best finish of the year, placing second in the ‘B’ section of the men’s javelin throw. Vaughn’s throw of 62.52m (205-02ft.) was the third best for Kansas on the season and the second longest of his career.

Veteran pole vaulter Jordan Scott took home a second place finish in the ‘A’ section of the men’s pole vault on Saturday afternoon. The senior cleared the bar at 5.50m (18-04.50ft.) on his first attempt, but was unable to top Oral Robert’s Jack Whitt, who cleared the next height at 5.60m (18-04.50ft.).

In the women’s pole vault, senior Jaci Perryman set a personal best in the event with a jump of 4.10m (13-05.25ft.). The mark is the best of the year for the Jayhawks.

Heather Bergmann finished sixth in the ‘A’ section of the women’s javelin throw. The sophomore hit a distance of 45.62m (149-08ft.), her second farthest of the season.

Juniors Cori Christensen and Rebeka Stowe were Kansas’ lone representatives in the ‘A’ section of the women’s 1,500 meters. Christensen crossed the finish line in sixth with a time 4:35.30. Stowe was not far behind, running a time of 4:35.70 and finishing in seventh.
