No. 13 Kansas Plays to Scoreless Tie with Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Despite outshooting Colorado College by a 22-13 margin, the Kansas soccer team played to a scoreless tie with the Tigers in the final match of the Colorado College Invitational Sunday at Stewart Field.

The Jayhawks move to 5-1-1 overall, while the Tigers are 3-2-1 following Sunday’s match. The scoreless tie was KU’s first since 2005.

Kansas had decidedly better chances throughout the contest. Perhaps KU’s best chance came in the final seconds of the second overtime when junior Lauren Jackson sent a cross through the crease that nobody could get a foot on. The ball ended up wide of the far post by inches.

In the second half, Whitney Berry broke free on the far side of the field and blasted a shot to the center of the goal, where Colorado College goalkeeper Caitlin Hulyo made the initial stop, however the rebound came back to Berry, but her second attempt hit the outside of the near post.

Berry led the Jayhawk offensive attack with six shots, while sophomore Emily Cressy chipped in four.

Kansas senior goalkeeper Julie Hanley recorded her first shutout of the season, making three saves.

In their first seven matches of the season, the Jayhawks have blanked three opponents and held three other opponents to just one goal.

KU (5-1-1) will be in action again next Friday, when it plays host to San Diego at 5 p.m. in the first day of the Jayhawk Invitational.
