Morris, Dolinsky Spark Kansas Past Drake, 2-1

DES MOINES, Iowa – Freshman Rachel Morris and sophomore Monica Dolinsky tallied first half goals as the Kansas soccer team earned a 2-1 triumph over Drake Friday evening at Drake Stadium.

The Jayhawks improve to 2-8-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-6-2.

Kansas came out firing on all cylinders in the first half, scoring a pair of goals in the first 33 minutes of play.

Midway through the first half, Morris scored her second goal in as many weeks, when she buried a cross from Shannon McCabe in the 24th minute. McCabe made a move around her defender on the near sideline and sent a pass to the front of the box, where Morris redirected the ball with her foot.

Less than ten minutes later, the Jayhawks struck again. This time, Dolinsky finished a Kim Boyer feed from eight yards out to give KU a 2-0 lead. Junior Jessica Bush started the play, sending a long pass into the box, where Boyer touched the ball to Dolinsky for the sophomore’s first goal of the season at 32:26.

Kansas held a slight 10-7 edge in shots, but had by-far the better opportunites. KU put six of their 10 shots on net and had one shot hit the post in the opening minutes.

Drake scored early in the second half on a long shot from Sarah Foote.

Senior Colleen Quinn stopped the Bulldogs’ other two shots on goal. Senior Nicole Cauzillo led the Jayhawks’ offensive attack with four shots including a pair on net, while Boyer added a pair of shots.

Kansas will travel to Lubbock, Texas to battle Texas Tech in a Big 12 match Sunday at 1 p.m.
