LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas men’s cross country team found itself ranked in this week’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll it was announced Tuesday as they checked in at No. 30. The men’s team enters the top-30 rankings for the first time since 2006, when it topped out at No. 10 in the weekly poll.

After a solid performance in the season’s most competitive meet to date, the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, the men’s cross country team moved into the national rankings for the first time in six years. Led by sophomore Reid Buchanan, the Jayhawks placed their top-five finishers within 19 seconds of one another to finish 20th overall in a field that featured over 300 runners and 45 teams.

In addition to last weeks’ performance in Wisconsin, the Jayhawks have already collected two team titles in 2012, including a victory at the Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence on Sept. 29. That day the men took down several nationally-ranked squads, including then-No. 11 Indiana.

The 2012 squad finds itself in the nation’s top-30 for first time since the 2006 team topped out at No. 10. That team went on to finish third in the Big 12, second in the Midwest Region and was the last Kansas group to send a team to the NCAA Championships, were they would eventually finish 20th.

The Big 12 is now the top conference with five teams ranked in the national top-30. Along with No. 1 Oklahoma State, the league has No. 6 Oklahoma and No. 7 Texas ranked within the top-10. Iowa State and Kansas round out the league’s representation in this week’s polls.

KU will be back in action in two weeks as the Jayhawks vie for their first Big 12 team title at the conference championships on Oct. 27 in Austin, Texas. The men’s 8K will begin at 11 a.m. (CT).
