14 Kansas runners earn Academic All-Big 12 honors

IRVING, Texas – The Kansas men’s and women’s cross country teams placed 14 runners on Academic All-Big 12 teams, announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Of the 14 individuals, 13 earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors, with George Letner, Chris Melgares, Hannah Driscoll, Cameron Gueldner, Lisa Lauschke and Megan Paule earning perfect 4.0 GPAs.
 
Nine Kansas women were honored, all of which earning first team accolades, while four of the five KU men earned a spot on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
 
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
 
The Jayhawks will compete on Friday, Nov. 9 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Peoria, Illinois, where they will be aiming to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on November 17.
