Jayhawks draw in exhibition with Omaha, 0-0

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Despite a 20-1 shot advantage on the day, Kansas soccer was unable to find the back of the net and settled for a 0-0 tie with the Omaha Mavericks in a preseason exhibition Friday evening at Rock Chalk Park.

It was a frustrating day for the Jayhawks, who managed to put six shots on target and send in three others that hit the crossbar. Junior Ceri Holland led the charge with seven shots of her own and was joined by 10 teammates who tallied at least one shot on the stat sheet. The KU attack also created 12 corner kicks, but none were able to produce a goal.

While the offense struggled, the defense held firm preserving the shutout and limited the Mavericks to just one shot in the full 90 minutes of action. Omaha’s lone attempted came in the ninth minute and was easily tipped away by KU’s sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Peters.

Twenty-two different Jayhawks took the field in what was KU’s only preseason tune-up of 2019, with 18 of those players logging at least 20 minutes.

Kansas will kick off the 2019 regular season when the Jayhawks welcome the Nebraska Cornhuskers to Rock Chalk Park on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. The former Big 12 rivals have met three times since 2015, with the Cornhuskers coming out on top in each of those contents. The match will be streamed live via Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Josh Klingler and Huw Williams set to call the action.
