Jayhawks primed for Badger Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas men’s golf team will travel to Madison, Wisconsin, for the third year in a row to open the season at the Badger Invitational at the University Ridge Golf Course, which will start on Sunday, September 8 and end on Tuesday.

The Jayhawks have seen success at the Badger Invitational. In the last two seasons, KU has finished second on the team leaderboard. In the 2018-19 season, KU carded 5-under par and finished four strokes behind the team in the top spot.

"I think we are going to get some returners back in the lineup with Andy Spencer leading the way."

Coach Jamie Bermel

This will be Spencer’s third time seeing the course, and being the lone senior on the team, he will lead the way for KU as it seeks its fifth-straight NCAA Regional bid under Bermel.

With Luke Kluver making his debut as a Jayhawk and an experienced group made up with Sigel, Doty and Shepherd, KU will look to take advantage of a familiar course and start the season on a high note.

"We have some additions, some new guys. Luke Kluver will be making his first college trip up to Madison, so we’re excited to see what he can do and of course Ben Sigel, Jeff Doty and Drew Shepherd as the returners. I think we have a good group of guys going up. I think some of the guys are really playing well at the right time."

Coach Jamie Bermel

The slate for the Badger Invitational features a 16-team field on a par-72, 7,294-yard course.

The Badger Invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., Sunday. Follow along with live scoring at Birdiefire.com.
