LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf coach Jamie Bermel has announced two additions to the KU roster for 2016-17, Daniel Sutton and Jacob Scarrow. Both are transfers from the University of Idaho.

Sutton brings a two-year college career scoring average of 72.1 to KU as he will be a junior for the Jayhawks. The Birmingham, England, native was the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and an all-conference first-team selection in 2014-15. He recorded three top-10 finishes his freshman campaign where he tied for third at the Big Sky Championship and tied for 21st at the NCAA San Diego Regional. Last year, Sutton posted a 71.88 stroke average and had five top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the Big Sky Championship and a tie for fifth at the NCAA Kohler Regional. He was an All-Big Sky First Team selection for the second-straight season.

“Dan has a lot of experience and has a chance to have two great years at Kansas,” Bermel said. “He’s currently ranked No. 390 in the World Amateur Golf rankings.”

From Mission, British Columbia, Canada, Scarrow will be a sophomore at KU. Last year, as a freshman, Scarrow competed in 10 tournaments for Idaho with a 73.3 stroke average, earning All-Big Sky Conference Honorable Mention honors. His best finish was at the Golfweek Challenge (Sept. 25) in Burlington, Iowa, where he tied for seventh with a three-round 210 (-6). Scarrow tied for 27th at the 2016 Big Sky Conference Championship and tied for 21st at the NCAA Kohler Regional.

“We recruited Jake out of high school,” Bermel said. “His high school and junior golf resume was outstanding and he had a solid year as a freshman.”

Sutton and Scarrow make up KU newcomer count to four. Incoming freshmen Drew Shepherd (Chicago) and Andy Spencer (Leawood, Kansas) signed with KU in Nov. 2015. Shepherd helped lead Hinsdale Central High School to the Illinois state title last season where he finished tied for 15th at the state tourney. Spencer became the first-ever two-time male recipient of the Kenneth Smith Award, given annually to a male and female high school golfer in the Kansas City area for on-course performance, academics and community service. He finished runner-up in the Kansas 6A State Tournament in leading Shawnee Mission East to the state title.
