KU soccer adds transfer Kaycie Young for 2018

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas head soccer coach Mark Francis announced Friday that redshirt-junior midfielder Kaycie Young will transfer to KU from Portland for her final year of eligibility and will be available to play for the Jayhawks for the upcoming 2018 season.

“I am really excited to add a player of Kaycie’s quality and experience to our squad,” said Francis. “She’s coming to us after a very successful career at Portland where she was a starter. Kaycie is a very technical player and will fit in very well with our style of play. She is very versatile and has played in the midfield and as a forward during her college career. I think she can help us at either spot and I look forward to her joining the squad in the summer to prepare for the fall.”

Young, a native of Castle Pines, Colorado, appeared in 52 matches from 2014-17 at Portland. She averaged over 83 minutes per game in those 52 matches, which included 51 starts. Primarily serving as a holding midfielder during her time with the Pilots, she tallied two goals, five assists, and amassed 47 shots, 17 of which were on frame.

She went to Portland after a four-year career with the Rock Canyon High School Jaguars. As a senior, Young was named the Colorado State Gatorade Player of the Year, landed on the NSCAA All-Region Team, earned Continental League Player of the Year honors and was voted to the all-league first team for the fourth-consecutive year. She also set the school record for most career goals with 44, was named Rock Canyon’s Outstanding Single Sport Athlete of the Year and helped lead the Jaguars to the state title game.

She was also a standout on the club circuit as a team captain for Real Colorado from 2006-14. Young was one of Top Drawer Soccer’s Top ECNL Scorers in both 2012-13 and 2013-14. She also participated at the ECNL’s “The Chance” in 2012 and 2013 after helping Real Colorado claim the State Cup in 2011.

Young and the Jayhawks will begin preparations for the 2018 campaign this summer before reporting for preseason camp in early August. The regular season is slated to kick off on Friday, August 17.
