Lokedi set to chase history at final NCAA Cross Country Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Senior Sharon Lokedi is set to run at her fourth-consecutive NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 10:45 a.m. at Zimmer Championship Course in Madison, Wisconsin.

Lokedi will look to join KU legend Billy Mills to become just the second three-time All-American in Kansas cross country history. She will need a top-40 finish on Saturday to earn her third honor, having missed All-America status last year by four spots, finishing 44th overall. Lokedi earned her first two All-America honors by placing 10th as a freshman in 2015 and fifth as a sophomore in 2016.

Lokedi finished second at the NCAA Midwest Regional for the third-straight year on Nov. 9 with a time of 20:23.0. Prior to her runner-up performance at Regionals, Lokedi earned All-Big 12 status with a fifth-place finish at the 2018 Big 12 Championship, marking her fourth-consecutive All-Big 12 performance.

Saturday’s run at Zimmer Championship Course will be Lokedi’s second race on the course this season, competing in the Pre-National Invitational in Madison earlier this year. Lokedi notched a sixth-place finish at Pre-Nats with a time of 20:11.87.

Lokedi opened her final cross country season with a victory at her home course of Rim Rock Farm, just missing the course record. Her 19:49.4 finish in the women’s 6K was just one second shy of the record.

Lokedi and the Jayhawks begin the indoor track & field season on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Bob Timmons Challenge in Anschutz Sports Pavilion in Lawrence.
